Mini Chateau situated in the Charante Maritime close to the borders of the Vendée and Maine et Loire.

We are situated in South West France in the Charente Maritime region. You can find us at in the Argenton Les Vallées sector in department 79. We are 15km from Bressuire, 30km from Cholet, 8km from Nueil Les Aubiers and 7km from Argenton Chateau.

Completely self contained in 2 acres of gardens and Lake.

On the ground floor Open views over the terrace and lake. Spacious salon with dining Room and Kitchen with stairs to the Mezzanine. Shower room with wash hand basin and W.C. Twin Bed room with ensuite shower room with wash hand basin and W.C.

Upstairs on the mezzanine there are two double bedrooms with wonderful views over the terrace lake and surrounding countryside. Separate wc with basin.

You will find lots of information on what to see and do in this wonderful region of France. Rambling walks of up to 20 km, Chateau to visit (we are in the Valley of the Kings), museums etc. For adults and not forgetting the children, the amazing Puy du Fou is just 45 minutes away in the Vendée, Furtureoscope is at Poitiers in the Vienne, an hours drive. For younger children there is the Parc de la Vallée which provides a day’s entertainment including a cowboys and Indians hold up on the train.

At La coudre just 5 minutes away there’s horseriding for everyone at all levels.

If you want to spend a day at the beach La Rochelle is just an hour and 15 minutes by car. Equally distant is Roche sur Yon and L’Ile d’Oleron with sandy beaches and a warm welcome.

The cultural centre of Saumur is 45 minutes away in Maine et Loire. Market every Saturday (get there early) Museums for all the family, take a tour by horse and trap to see all the historical monuments including the Chateau of Saumur. You can also take a boat trip on the Loire.

Places to Eat

There are lots of bars and restaurants to have a quiet drink or a meal, some just 5 minutes from the Grenouillon in St Clementin. For something special there is the Lac d’Hautibus on the riverfront at Argenton Chateau. Open for lunches and evening meals, you can sit in or on the terrace overlooking the river Argenton. Excellent service and very good value for money. The restaurant is open all day Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Monday’s). Lac d’Hautibus is very well known so arrive early for a meal or telephone to make a reservation.

The thriving market towns of Bressuire and Thouars are just 20 minutes away and there is lots to see and do here with plenty of choice of restaurant and bar.

The gîte is situated in the small hamlet of Artenac, in the commune of St Mary, in the Charente. This hamlet is in the valley of the River Bonnieure, and is surrounded by fields of cereal crops, sunflowers, maize and rape-seed, plus pastureland and many woods and forests. It is ideal countryside for bird- and wildlife-watchers, fisherfolk, cyclists and ramblers. The towns and villages nearby are also full of unspoilt historical buildings.

The gite is a traditional 19th-century stone-built house comprising a living-room with sofa, armchairs, tv/dvd and sound-system, heated by a wood-stove, leading up a couple of steps to the kitchen-diner, which has table, chairs, a traditionsl ‘cuisinière’ (wood/coal fired stove), gas-fired hob and oven, fridge-freezer, sink, and the usual kitchen cupboards and appliances, and is heated by an air/air heat pump. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed, and the other with two single beds. Each has a wardrobe/storage for clothes, chairs and an electric heater.

There is a small shady courtyard at the rear of the house, furnished with table and chairs.

The shower-room, which also contains washbasin, w.c. and bidet, is situated at the side of the kitchen.

There are two bedrooms on the first floor, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. Additional folding and air-beds are available. Each room contains a wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables and chairs.

Chasselas is a stone built, 19th Century vine-growers house with a walled garden and small barn set in a tranquil hamlet 15kms from Cognac and the river Charente.

It is south facing and soaks up the sun all the year round.
Downstairs are two spacious rooms; a kitchen/diner, with shower room and separate wc off, and a high ceilinged lounge with exposed beams and wood burner. The kitchen is fully equiped with a fridge/freezer, cooker with oven an four rings, microwave and the usual small appliances. The lounge is comfortably furnished and has a TV with DVD and VHS player and a library of films. There’s a stereo system and a large selection of paperbacks.

The first floor has 3 double bedrooms (single beds) and a bathroom with shower and wc. These rooms all look out onto the garden.

We have 2 young children, and we have also been letting out our cottages here in the Charente Maritime to families since 1996 so have some experience of what children of all ages enjoy and what makes their parents holidays enjoyable too. Its usually the case that if the children are happy so are the parents.
Our family friendly heated pool is completely enclosed by a min 1m10 high wall and is accessed by a gate which is self closing and has a child proof latch. It is also alarmed for extra security. The pool is 66 m2 and has a gently sloping beach style entrance, so its very child friendly and perfect for toddlers to splash around in, being just a few cm deep. It slopes gently down to an 80 cm shallow end then again down to a 1m 80 deep end. Because it is heated even younger children will happily swim / play in it from May to the end of September.

Charentaise holiday gite with heated pool, Charente Maritime, France.

White Shutters is a conversion of traditional 19th Century manoir farm buildings and stables into comfortable family holiday accommodation. The house has retained many traditional features such as exposed stone walls and beams. The gite is situated in Charente Maritime, south west France less than an hour from the beach.

Outside there is a large private floodlit 12m heated swimming pool for your exclusive use, situated in a private walled south facing garden.

Your family friendly holiday rental sleeps 8-12 (maximum 8 adults and up to 4 extra children/babies) in four generous bedrooms with four bath/shower rooms. The arrangement of the house gives ample privacy for 2-3 family groups sharing. Bed linen, towels, and wi-fi broadband internet are all included for a stress free holiday. Baby equipment provided includes two cots (one wooden cot and one travel cot), stair gates top and bottom of stairs and two high chairs, potties, step stools and plastic picnic ware.

The large cooks kitchen is comprehensively equipped for a party of up to 12. We have plenty of large pans and serving dishes, a huge second chiller cabinet in addition to the fridge freezer, dish washer and washing machine. There are two tables in the kitchen so everyone can eat inside on the rare occasions the weather is not perfect (or too hot!)

This large (200 square metres) light, spacious and self catering house is situated in South-West France in the department of the Charente Maritime (part of the Poitou Charentes region) and is only 6km from the thriving market town of Aulnay. Situated in peaceful countryside dotted with sunflower fields and vineyards, the Charente Maritime offers long hot summers, short mild winters, clear skies and fresh unpolluted air. The quiet roads and gentle terrain are ideal for family cycle rides. Cognac is very convenient for a day out. The many and varied Atlantic beaches betwen La Rochelle and Royan are within easy reach.

White Shutters is only five hours driving time from the Western Channel Ports (7 hours from Calais) on good auto routes and is less than an hour from two low cost airports, Angouleme and La Rochelle, with Poitiers 90 minutes away.
