The cottage of les Chenes offers a lovely base to explore from, but with its pretty south facing garden you may just want to stay ‘home’. Les Chenes is surrounded by mixed woodland, cider apple orchards and farmland and is 5 minutes from the Vilaine River.

Located in greenery, in a very quiet place, this typically « Briarde » house is independent, and very cozy. The small charming village (150 inhabitants) is located in the valley of the Aubetin.
Close to railroad station and RER (20mn, at Tournan-en-Brie). 20 mn to the UNESCO-classified city of Provins, 45 mn to Disneyland Paris, 20 mn to the “Feline Parc” in Nesles / Lumigny.
The gîte is surrounded by a closed private garden with terrace, garden furniture and BBQ.
Independent closed car park.
• On the ground floor, you’ll find a small lounge with a very comfortable sofa bed, and a small dining room with TV. A little kitchen where you can see the garden from, with a cooker, a micro-waves oven and a dishwasher, a bathroom and independent toilets.
• On the first floor, a bedroom with a bed for two and a bed for one, a chest of drawers and a closet.
Baby bed, high chair and baby tub are available for free, please ask us.

Electrical heating is charge of the guests. Rate of sheets rental: 10€ pro bed.
The washing machine is shared with the owners, who live next to the gîte.

Lovely holiday home with amazing uninterrupted views to the coast, the Lerins Islands off Cannes and the bay of Frejus and St Raphael.
The house is all on the same level, 2 double bedrooms and one childrens bedroom with bunk beds. One of the double rooms has an en-suite bathroom, the other two bedrooms share a second bathroom.

A large open plan living room with open plan kitchen. 2 terraces at the front and back of the house.

A 5 minute drive (25 minute walk) to the village of Mons where you will find and exceptional boulangerie, 4 restaurants and a small grocery store. The main shops are a 20 minute drive away.

If you are staying at the house in July and August, you have access to the residential pool. 30m in length and a smaller paddling pool for the youger children.

A grat location to relax or have an action packed holiday, tennis courts near by, grat walks, mountain bike tracks, the LAC ST CASSIEN for a days swimming and peddaloeing is 25 minutes away.

The large dining room seats 6, and the lounge, which opens onto the terrace, is equipped with a CD player, TV, wifi, radio, Ipod docking station/charger, and a library of books & games. The recent renovations, with exposed beams, expert stone work and tastefull decor contribute to the charm & atmosphere of this village cottage.

Further details outdoors:
Sitting on the south facing terrace with swifts wheeling overhead, enjoying the last rays of the days sun while sipping a glass of wine is an ideal way to end the day. With views to Renne-le-Chateau and Coustaussa Castle on the other side of the valley and, in the distance the snow topped Pyrenees. We are 10 minutes walk to the river Aude and the neighbouring village of Couiza with bars, hotel, restaurants, supermarket, beauty salon, chemist, organic produce store, bank and post office.
The cottage is at the centre of the Cathar region with hill top castles and the medieval city of Carcassonne to remind you of the fascinating and often tragic history for which this region is renowned. Just across the valley from the cottage is Rennes le Chateau, centre of a mystery still very much alive with many books written & films made on the subject. The mystery is one of sudden wealth, secret codes and a search for treasure in the latter part of the 19thC.

The link with the village is very strong – in 1852 Bérenger Saunière, the priest at the centre of the mystery was born in Montazels. (Just type Montazels into any search engine and take your pick of the many web sites if you wish to delve deeper).

Electricity and Gas are included in the summer months May – October. We charge at cost price by meter reading from the beginning of November to the end of April.

The rent plus a £150 breakage deposit, is payable 8 weeks before the booking commences. The deposit will be refunded within10 days of departure.

Changeover days are flexible. To allow time for change over, the earliest arrival time is 4:00 pm and the house should be vacated by 10:00 am on day of departure.

Mini Chateau situated in the Charante Maritime close to the borders of the Vendée and Maine et Loire.

We are situated in South West France in the Charente Maritime region. You can find us at in the Argenton Les Vallées sector in department 79. We are 15km from Bressuire, 30km from Cholet, 8km from Nueil Les Aubiers and 7km from Argenton Chateau.

Completely self contained in 2 acres of gardens and Lake.

On the ground floor Open views over the terrace and lake. Spacious salon with dining Room and Kitchen with stairs to the Mezzanine. Shower room with wash hand basin and W.C. Twin Bed room with ensuite shower room with wash hand basin and W.C.

Upstairs on the mezzanine there are two double bedrooms with wonderful views over the terrace lake and surrounding countryside. Separate wc with basin.

You will find lots of information on what to see and do in this wonderful region of France. Rambling walks of up to 20 km, Chateau to visit (we are in the Valley of the Kings), museums etc. For adults and not forgetting the children, the amazing Puy du Fou is just 45 minutes away in the Vendée, Furtureoscope is at Poitiers in the Vienne, an hours drive. For younger children there is the Parc de la Vallée which provides a day’s entertainment including a cowboys and Indians hold up on the train.

At La coudre just 5 minutes away there’s horseriding for everyone at all levels.

If you want to spend a day at the beach La Rochelle is just an hour and 15 minutes by car. Equally distant is Roche sur Yon and L’Ile d’Oleron with sandy beaches and a warm welcome.

The cultural centre of Saumur is 45 minutes away in Maine et Loire. Market every Saturday (get there early) Museums for all the family, take a tour by horse and trap to see all the historical monuments including the Chateau of Saumur. You can also take a boat trip on the Loire.

Places to Eat

There are lots of bars and restaurants to have a quiet drink or a meal, some just 5 minutes from the Grenouillon in St Clementin. For something special there is the Lac d’Hautibus on the riverfront at Argenton Chateau. Open for lunches and evening meals, you can sit in or on the terrace overlooking the river Argenton. Excellent service and very good value for money. The restaurant is open all day Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Monday’s). Lac d’Hautibus is very well known so arrive early for a meal or telephone to make a reservation.

The thriving market towns of Bressuire and Thouars are just 20 minutes away and there is lots to see and do here with plenty of choice of restaurant and bar.

In addition to sharing huge and beautiful grounds with two other gites on the property, La Vacherie has it’s own private sun deck area with barbecue perfectly situated for amazing sunsets across the Normandy fields.

The property has been converted to a high standard, with modern facilities complementing the historic features of the barn.

All of our holiday homes are dog-friendly, in addition to the miles of vast empty beaches, there are fabulous walks through the beautiful French countryside for you and your dog to enjoy.

The extensive grounds feature two large ponds, with frogs galore for the kids to try and catch (they’re a bit quick off the mark though… they need to be in France) and some lovely ducks with a penchant for stale baguettes. We also have a 14ft trampoline and some swings for the kids on the play field to the rear of the barn.
