Comfortable sofas and a log burning stove make this a cosy room in low season and in the height of summer the thick walls and good insulation make it a cool retreat from the summer sun. A bookcase full of books is there for you to make you choice and a satellite TV/DVD with a library of DVDs for you to borrow.
There is a dining area for 4 and if booked for a larger group a second larger dining room is available which sleep 8 easily. There are full place settings, table mats, and cutlery. The kitchen is fully equipped with has cooker, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, kettle toaster, a range of cooking pans and dishes and sharp knives! We also supply basic kitchen consumables including rice, flour, herbs, olive oil and all cleaning materials.

Tamarisk is a typical large French family house which sleeps up to 8 people in four bedrooms – two double bedded rooms a twin bedded room and a bunk bedded room. All the bedrooms are upstairs and a toilet with pedestal wash hand basin. Downstairs there is a large living room (with music centre), and dining area which in turn leads into the kitchen The modern kitchen has a cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, and plenty of worktops and cupboards. Downstairs there is a very smart bathroom with large shower and vanity unit with basin and airing cupboard. There is also another separate toilet with basin at the bottom of the stairs.
The whole house is very spacious and is furnished well. and is kept to a high standard by the owners.
There is plenty of free parking outside on the road and in the parking area on the opposite side of the road. There is a delightful small park opposite the house with seating and is ideal for ball games.

TAMARISK – Camaret-sur-mer

Picturesque Camaret has everything required for an unforgettable holiday for all the family. Firstly there is the charming port itself with two yacht marinas and fishing boat quays. (one can go and buy fresh shell fish lobsters and crabs straight off the boats on the fish quays). There is canoe,dinghy and boat hire plus a diving school only 3 minutes walk away. Also you can book coastal trips and fishing trips and for the more adventurous there is a daily passenger ferry out to the islands of Ushant and Molene where one can have a day either walking or hiring bikes to explore the islands.
Around the harbour is a fantastic mix of cafes restaurants and holiday shops. (Altogether there are over 20 restaurants to choose from – all display a menu outside so one can select your dish and price to suit.
In the old part of the town is the famous artist’s quarter with over a dozen artists showing their work in little individual studios. The ‘boulanger’ is only 40 meters away for buying your fresh baguette and croissants and the super-market is only 50m away.

Camaret has its own beautiful sandy beach about five minutes walk away and there are more beautiful sandy beaches and magnificent coastal scenery all within a five-minute drive.

The beautiful Dordogne river a short walk away offers all manner of water activities: swimming, kayaking, waterskiing etc. Nearby the famous Chateau Tiregand and its Pécharmant wines, typical of the region and for those gastronomes countless restaurants in which to sample Perigordine ‘South West French’ cuisine. Relax by the pool then stroll down the private lane to the weekly village fete ‘Table de Pecheurs’ to experience that quintessential French fete!

Fully enclosed by low sympathetic fencing and hedges, with lockable gates and alarm for the safety of children.

The property has an idyllic setting in beautiful countryside with lovely views , with sun all day long. The house is fronted by a terrace wand part-shaded by a mature Lime, with five acres of private grounds. Formerly a simple farmhouse with adjoining barns and stable, Au Chicot was the subject of a sympathetic conversion by US architects and is now light, spacious, well-planned and extremely comfortable. The views, which are really quite exceptional, can be appreciated from many of Au Chicot’s windows too – and even when you’re swimming!

The property’s rustic charm includes wonderful beams, exposed stone, fireplaces and wood floors. Sleeping 8 + baby in four bedrooms, (three of which have private bathroom with shower, and there’s a separate bathoom offering bath with shower over) the house has been carefully furnished with a mix of French country antiques and quality contemporary pieces; a place to relax and truly call home.

The area historically known as Gascony, of which the Gers forms the centre, has a gently rolling landscape laying claim to the highest concentration of bastide (fortified) villages in France: a tiny Tuscany minus the crowds! From the house you’re only 20 minutes from three of France’s officially listed “most beautiful villages”, delightful Fourcès, Montréal and tiny, moated Larressingle.

This seriously unspoilt area offers an exciting heritage, and enjoys a great climate, super regional food (with duck, foie gras and prunes featuring prominently on local menus) and wine: best appellations of the area Madiran, Jurancon, Côtes de Gascogne. Let’s not also forget Armagnac, the delicious brandy exclusive to this area. And there’s heaps to see and do – for sportsmen, nature lovers, artists, those keen on architecture and Roman remains, sun-worshippers, cyclists, walkers (the main St Jacques de Compostela pilgrim route passes nearby,) it’s all here, and easily accessible!

Au Chicot sits neatly at the head of a plateau, on three acres of land, surrounded by fields of sunflowers, maize and vineyards. Just a short amble along the road is the beautiful Château de Busca-Maniban, a prominent Armagnac producer and the finest example of 17th Century architecture in Gascony, where you’ll be welcomed for a tour and tastings. Passing cars are infrequent, so the only sounds you’ll hear will be those of crickets, bees, the faint whurr of a tractor or closer to home, happy splashes, pages turning or corks being popped! Sunsets are spectacular at Au Chicot, and later, mellow after a good meal, and with the Château de Cassaigne, another renowned Armagnac producer, illuminated in the distance, indulge in a litte stargazing … sunrise is equally special if you’re up that early!

Though tucked away, don’t be misled: the house is only a short drive from commerce – 5 minutes to crusty bread and croissants, and just 10 minutes to our pretty local town of Condom. All the banks and shops you need are there plus a great choice of restaurants, ranging from Michelin starred to those offering hearty Gascon fare – €15 or less for a rustic three-course meal and the local tipple.

Toulouse and Bordeaux international airports are a 1.5 and 2 hr drive away, plus the smaller airports of Pau, Biarritz and Bergerac. The drive from St Malo is around 7 hours so our visitors with children often break their journey. A third option is to relax in the high speed TGV (Train Grande Vitesse) to Agen (4 hrs from Paris,) pick up a hire car and from there it’s just an easy, very pretty run of 40 minutes.

La Balayrie has been a labour of love for over 17 years, but we now would like to share its charm and tranquility with fellow lovers of the French way of life.
Set in the Lower Normandy countryside it has lovely rural views. Restored to its former glory, with a wealth of beams, granite and space.
The house is split into two, so could be enjoyed by a couple or two families (it can sleep 8 comfortably). An interconnecting door divides the old stone house from the newly converted barn. There are two bathrooms and two well equipped kitchens. Equipment includes dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, as well as the usual appliances you would expect.. Central heating, wood burner and TV/DVDs – either French or English TV can be watched, CD player, many books, games, toys etc. so it is very homely whatever the weather.
A travel cot and highchair are available. The large garden is surrounded by farmland, but has a BBQ, patio areas and garden furniture.
The house is one hour from the port of Ouistreham, (Caen) and is surrounded by many places of interests, from Chateaux to forests, gardens, walks, 2nd World War sites, cheese, cider routes, markets and activities to satisfy most interests.
